The History of ESEA
The corporation known today as ESEA (officially, the “Education Support Employees Association of Clark County”) was incorporated in 1981; However, ESEA was first known as the Nevada Classified School Employees Association, formerly known as the Nevada School Employees’ Association (and no relation to the modern NSEA), which existed as an unincorporated association (a group of people associated together for a common purpose) before incorporating in 1981. “ESEA” was “Chapter 1” of the Nevada School Employees’ Association and had been the recognized bargaining agent for the classified employees in the Clark County School District since the inception of collective bargaining in Nevada in 1969. The Nevada School Employees’ Association (now NCSEA) was organized into local “chapters” that were each recognized bargaining agents in their respective school districts, but were not themselves corporations and had and still have no legal existence independent of the School Employees’ Association, except as “employee organizations” for the purposes of NRS Chapter 288. Chapter 1 (now ESEA) severed its connection with the Nevada School Employees’ Association before becoming ESEA (The organization now known as WESP in Washoe County was Chapter 2 of NCSEA before it disaffiliated in 2004).The Nevada School Employees’ Association was incorporated in 1967, accordingly, ESEA as an organization, has existed since 1967.
